trouble turning the page...
I recently started a new book.
Made it to page twenty-five.
The page ended with:
“Art is the Antidote”
I re-read that page three times.
Not because I hadn't understood the words.
Or the story.
But because I loved it too much to continue just yet.
I wanted to stay there a little longer.
I didn't want to know what happened next.
I wanted to stay with what had just happened.
To savour it.
Sometimes we hurry through books because we want to know what happens next.
This page reminded me that there is another way to read.
There are no rules.
No timetable.
No prize for reaching the final chapter first.
Sometimes one page is enough.
Sometimes one page deserves three readings.
The joy isn't only in discovering the story.
It's in borrowing someone else's way of seeing the world for a little while.
The world is always speaking. We only have to notice.
Always learning to see,
Cassandra
